Fave Keyboard Short Cuts–Hot Keys

Today’s discussion is for hot keys on a PC.

If you use the computer frequently, you probably already know the value of keyboard short cuts.  If you’re not familiar with them, I’m about to blow your mind.  These short cuts are also referred to as hot keys.  These 4 are my favorite and most frequently used hot keys.

Ctrl + c = Copy

Ctrl + x = Cut

Ctrl + z = Undo

Ctrl + v = Paste

Ctrl + f = Find

Ctrl stands for control.  The plus sign (+) tells you that you need to press both keys at the same time.  For example, “Ctrl + c” means you will press both the control key and the c key at the same time.  Make sure you highlighted the text you want to copy before you press the hot key.

These hot keys are so commonly used and recognized, that you can try them out in almost any browser or program and they are likely to work.  They are especially helpful when working on a laptop and your don’t have easy access to right clicking on the mouse or you would prefer not to move your hand as much.  And since you don’t have to move your wrist as much when using hot keys, it also helps to reduce carpo tunnel and other keyboard/typing related injuries.

Sorry Mac users, I’m a PC.  I would love if Mac users could chime in and let the Our Wired Lives community know if such hot keys work on the Mac.

I love these, I use them all the time!

  2. Ctrl + A = Select all. 😉
Another one of my faves. Hot keys are the way to go!

  3. They totally work on a Mac too! Only difference is on a Mac you use the “apple” key/Command key (directly to the left of the space bar) instead of the control key.
